At the Polish seaside you can eat virtually anywhere. Some eateries you can find "by smell", and I try to give such places a wide berth. Therefore, I prefer restaurants which have been recommended. If somebody goes back on their own free will – I go too.
I don't like to experiment and I have some favourite places where I know that the food is excellent. We visit U Cywila every time we are in Niechorze. We recommend this restaurant to our friends. Due to buzz marketing during the summer season, at U Cywila it is difficult to find a free table.
The fish and chip shop is family-run by the fish and food freaks, Urszula and Krzysztof Cywińscy. Thanks to them, I no longer associate seaside restaurants with dry fish and chips which have been fried in the same oil for the whole season. The menu at U Cywila is the biggest I have ever seen. The fish they prepare surprises us with its diversity of species and the many ways in which it is served.
We can start our feast with a fantastic fish starter: herrings, carpaccio from salmon, white tuna, swordfish or steak tartare made from salmon. Then I propose you try one of the original fish soups. They are prepared according to the availability of fresh fish. Spicy segedynska or mild splendid crawfish soup with rosemary are my favourites. If we can still eat more, we can order a main course. There are fish fried with oil and butter, boiled fish and grilled fish. Sometimes you don't know what you should order, and so the owners come to us and recommend some toothsome dishes.
Believers in traditional dishes can find fillet of codfish, zander or halibut. You can try my favourites: grilled toothfish with garlic butter, turbot with pepper butter, or tenderloin from white tuna with garlic-parsley olive oil. These who like experiments will be tempted by sturgeon with caviar sauce, tenderloin from catfish with onion and horseradish, or excellent tail of devilfish with caviar sauce. Every dish is well-judged and well-balanced; the tasty fish is juicy and fragrant. Although the restaurant is rather expensive, the dishes are good value for money.
